Wise Money Transfers

How Wise works

Wise’s official transfer flow asks the sender to create and verify an account, select or add a recipient, enter the amount and currencies, choose an available payment method, and review the transfer before sending.

The available funding and recipient options depend on the sender’s region and the currencies involved. Wise shows the fee and delivery estimate for the available choices during setup, and the transfer can be tracked from the account activity view.

Fees and exchange rates

Wise says sending costs depend on the amount, payment method, and currency pair. Its published model uses the mid-market exchange rate and a separately displayed fee, although the final pricing and any rate-guarantee conditions must be checked for the specific transfer.

A sender should still compare the final recipient amount. Bank or card charges outside the Wise quote, Swift costs, recipient-bank charges, and route-specific conditions may affect some transfers.

Funding and delivery methods

Wise identifies bank transfer as one way to fund a transfer and says cards or other local methods may be available depending on region. Recipient setup can use bank details and, where supported, other recipient identifiers or local rails.

The exact funding method, payout method, and availability should be confirmed in the live Wise flow for the selected route.

Transfer speed

Wise does not give one delivery time for every transfer. Its help center says speed depends on the transfer and directs users to the transaction-specific estimate and transfer tracker.

Funding arrival, conversion, bank processing, weekends, holidays, and verification can affect timing. An estimate is not a guaranteed arrival time unless the provider’s applicable terms explicitly say otherwise.

Limits and verification

Wise limits vary by currency, payment method, account type, account location, and regulatory checks. Additional identity or source-of-funds information may be requested, especially for some transfers or larger amounts.

The sender should use the limit shown in the account or transfer flow rather than relying on a general amount from an undated guide.

Security and regulation

Wise states that Wise US Inc. is registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and is licensed as a money transmitter in listed states. In some U.S. states or territories, services are offered through Community Federal Savings Bank.

Registration or licensing does not remove transaction risk. Senders should use the official Wise website or app, protect login and verification information, and verify recipient details before paying.

May be useful when

  • You want to compare a transfer quote that separates the displayed fee from the exchange rate.
  • The required source currency, destination, funding method, and payout method are available.
  • You want to review and track the transfer through a web account or mobile app.

Things to consider

  • Payment and recipient methods vary by route and region.
  • Verification can delay a transfer or require additional documents.
  • The final Wise quote can differ from an earlier RemitLow comparison.
